S4000 BOXXER power cable fault location system offers high performance, user-friendly, accurate fault location in a compact, comprehensively-featured, transportable system. It reduces operating costs with improved performance.
S4000 BOXXER power cable fault location system will diagnose, prelocate and pinpoint all types of fault commonly found on HV cables with outstanding speed and reliability to give you maximum service levels.
S4000 BOXXER power cable fault location system uses 3 techniques - high performance ICE (Impulse Current Equipment), easy to use SIM (Secondary Impulse Method), and TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) for examination of the cable without the need to apply high voltage.
At the heart of the S4000 BOXXER power cable fault location system is the powerful S310 Surge Generator supported by the S602 Fault Prelocator and the S202 Fine Locator.
The S310 Surge Generator can output 32KV in single or repetitive surge or DC mode.
The system offers the flexibility of 3 adjustable voltage ranges, each providing up to 1000 joules of energy.
The impulse rate is variable between 2 and 10 seconds. Even at 8KV, operators have up to 1000 joules for thumping out a direct path to the fault. By starting at a low setting and working up through the range, the operator does not risk changing the character of the fault - which can make the job much more difficult.
The BOXXER S310 Surge Generator and the S602 Prelocator used together make it possible to obtain an excellent trace first time - with an accuracy of better than 1%.
In all 3 modes of operation - ICE, SIM and TDR the operator has a memory facility available which, when displayed over the last trace displayed, enables rapid ID of fault positions.
For accurate pinpointing, the S202 Fine Locator is used in conjunction with the S310 Surge Generator. The "thump" caused by the S310 Surge Generator is picked up through the headphones and a meter display on the unit features a magnetic indicator to assist in pinpointing the fault position.
Safety features are rigorously designed in to the system. S4000 BOXXER is key operated and the lock cannot be circumvented.
The HV range and capacitance switches are interlocked. The output is interlocked to the variable HV control, allowing HV output to be selected only when switched to zero volts.
The S310 Surge Generator is fitted with mA and KV meters and an internal automatic HV dump switch.
In addition, a manual discharge rod is provided for personal safety assurance when connecting and disconnecting HV cables. For fast cable fault location, the system includes drum-mounted HV test cables fitted with HV connections with connector-end stowaway slots for transportation.
All S4000 BOXXER system components comply with the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC, the Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC and the Transitional Arrangements of the Amendment to the Low Voltage Directive 93/68/EEC and are manufactured under the rigours of ISO 9001.
